One and Only Ivan

As a thoughtful book, One and Only Ivan is a widely known and award winning tale. It displays a silverback gorilla, far from his home, painting, in a mall. His only friends are the performing elephant, Stella and the stray dog, Bob. This strange companionship is beautiful to watch and even better to read. Ivan, the painting mammal, draws his way out of his cage, into the jungle. The plot, twisted in a way strangely calming, is a beautiful feature of this book, one that Katherine Applegate seems to have perfected. It is a comfort at any time of anger and can soothe you, with its kind but hulking characters, its comforting but unseemly companions and its beautiful but unsettling descriptions. The story seems to radiate happiness, peace and even sometimes anger. This is a wonderful read along with its two companion books and to go with these, a wonderful eat, are banana and chocolate chip muffins. Happy Reading!
