The Boy at the Back of the Class

All around the world, tragedies take place, many of us don’t know about them, don’t see them, but there are many who do too, many who take action to help people around them. The Boy at the Back of the Class, is an extremely empowering tale, following the journey of a young boy, navigating the American life for the first time. As a refugee of Syria, Ahmet has experienced many struggles and continues to do so. With a small but amazing initiative, classmates around him, find ways to help him, whether it be on their own or with the help of adults. Their journey to help their friend lightens the book and creates an adventure, but still conveys the message of suffering and grief. With much trial and error, his friends and he finally triumph, earning him the life he deserves. This beautiful tale uses actions rather than words to convey the same meaning but much stronger and more meaningfully. As children ourselves, we understand the urge to do things on our own, so sometimes, we must take responsibility of the actions happening around us, try to make a change. On a much lighter note, to bring you back home, to your own triumphs and achievements, eating some Syrian Rosewater Rice Pudding as you read this book would be an amazing homage to Ahmet and the many families around the world.
